About Racing at Shinnecock Yacht Club:
Since running its inaugural first race from a dock at Phillips Point on July 4, 1888, the members of the Shinnecock Yacht Club (“SYC”) have consistently organized and run competitive sailboat races from its clubhouse docks located on Penniman Creek in Shinnecock Bay, Long Island. Our members have raced competitively in a variety of “one design” sailboat classes over our club’s 134-year history, testing the skills of SYC sailors and including Class AA and BB catboats, Sunfish, Celebrity Class sailboats, and the legendary SS Class small sloop (also known as “The Magic Boat”), commissioned in 1908 and built by famed local boatbuilder Benjamin Hallock. The SS Class is still raced today on Shinnecock Bay and nearby waters, a testament to its durability and design as an ideal racing boat for sailors of all ages and abilities to enjoy on Long Island’s south shore.
The Race Committee at Shinnecock Yacht Club is thrilled to share the below Adult Sailing race schedule for the upcoming 2021 season! All adult races this year will be run in SS Class. If you are interested in racing, crewing, or running committee boats on any of the below dates, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Note, this is a consolidated schedule with additional races run by the SS Class Association (“SSCA”) at Westhampton Yacht Squadron. If anyone is interested in participating in any SSCA race, or would like to learn more about this historic class and available boats to restore or purchase, please contact Ian Connett (email@example.com) or visit https://www.ssclassassociation.org/.
We look forward to seeing many of you on the water with us this season! Please see below official schedule for the 2021 adult racing season.
